Wood frame bikes have long given way to aluminum and space age materials but designer Arndt Menke thinks we were too hasty in giving up on one of the strongest, resilient, and lightweight natural materials. The Holzweg bike’s frame is totally made of wood and weighs 2.3kg. Menke’s master’s degree demonstrates how careful attention to wood’s natural retention, expansion and anisotropic properties can be advantageous in design. The end result is an incredibly light weight bike, strong and pretty good looking too. I want one!

Classic Royale
Interesting frame, unearthed from behind an apartment building, where it had apparently sat for a dozen years. It was fully overgrown with vegetation, and harbored three distinct species of spider.
Frame was cleaned, rust removed, wet-sanded with 1200 and clear coated.
Built up with mostly first generation Dura Ace, plus Chris King headset, Nitto bars, DT Swiss RR 1.1 rims on Dura Ace hubs. First generation Dura Ace center pull brakes with v-brake pads, makes for true 1 finger braking. Drilled the stem for the center pull front brake cable. It’s a sweet ride.

Georg Jensen Crafts a Bicycle
We’ve mentioned the rise of bicycles as fashion brand accessory before on PSFK. Other companies seem to be rediscovering the love of two wheeled transportation as well. Danish jewelry and accessory maker Georg Jensen recently launched their bike called WHEELS, designed and produced in close cooperation with Danish Søren Sögreni who have built a reputation for unique and contemporary designed bicycles.
